LANDLORDS DURING THE FAMINE

Landlords in the famine were not very considerate of their tenants. Even in the hard times of the famine the landlords would raise the price of having a very small piece of land. Although some of the landlords were kinder than others they would give the tenants more time to pay the rent. When the landlords first started renting their land it was much bigger and cheaper and then over the years the land started to get smaller and more expensive.

Landlords were very rich people during the famine. They thought they were better than everyone else that was poorer than them. They would be very cruel to their tenants and if the tenants couldnt pay their rent they would burn the cottages and they would pull off their thatched roofs so the tenants wouldnt come back to have a roof over their heads. The effect on landlords was hard as well but not as hard as others with landlords it was hard because their tenants couldnt pay their rent like I said earlier on. Most landlords were English on ireland i dont think that there was any Irish landlords during the famine or before that even.Landlords would mainly spend their time in England and have a person working for them to look after their house and collect all the rent, and then they would come back every couple of months and collect three quarters of the money and give the rest to the people that were working for him and that would not be a lot of money for everyone else.
